A.G. Consulting provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing design services for this new 15,000 sq. ft. library. The building is organized around the concept of daylight, with its central top-lit atrium, its north-facing high performance curtain wall, south-facing garden wall and sidewall set-back for east exposure. The introduction of generous daylight will significantly reduce the building’s use of electrical lighting.

A Gep-thermal open loop system was designed for the facility. Through the use of a heat pump, heat will be exchanged between the building and the constant temperature of the earth below the building. A test well was made before moving into the Design Phase. The results indicated that there was sufficient water flow in a layer of sand/gravel 240’ below grade to support the open loop system proposed. This is one of the first projects by NYC-DDC wherein a Geothermal System was designed.
