The
Thurgood Marshall Courthouse is listed on
the National Register of Historic places.
This 33-story 718,180 sq. ft. building is
the largest courthouse in the United States,
containing twenty-three courtrooms, forty-four
judges’ chambers and court-related office
spaces. The building is to be renovated at
a cost of $169M by the GSA. AG is providing
comprehensive HVAC, electrical, plumbing and
fire protection design and construction administration
services. AGCE is working with Beyer Blinder
Belle, Davis Brody Bond and Flack & Kurtz.
The work includes bulk demolition package
and new design. The challenges are to modernize
the facility with no/least disturbance to
historical components such as ornately carved
ceiling of the Judge’s chambers, libraries,
public assembly areas and more.
The MEP systems are to be designed following
LEED (Leadership & Energy & Environmental
Design).
